I really want to add an Egyptian cavalry unit of some type to my Mahdist wargame forces. In 1/72, there’s not much available. I have, with some difficulty acquired this set: www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1879Gendarmes in blue? Near enough to regular cavalry? Some type of Bashi Bazoouk? It’s also difficult to find any uniform information. I have seen wargames’ figures of Egyptian cavalry in white (though with the regulation jacket rather than the zouave-style one) but with inexplicable mid blue trousers. Where does this come from?? Any advice is welcome as I really want to start painting. donald

These are the best sites I know on Ottoman Army Uniforms of the era: I dont know in what way if any Egyptians would have varied, but I think you can be fairly certain there would have been some variation... White jacket blue breeches: It seems to me you would be better off mounting Egyptian Camel Corps on Horses... or possible an upper body conversion using them.. And thank you very much. The puttees are an issue with the HaT camel corps so I think I'll stick to the HaT set (they were hard to find at a reasonable P&P cost!), paint them in the white coat & blue trousers uniform, ignoring the inaccuracies until something better comes along.donald
