The Greek armies used catapults for siege warfare. The Macedonian army under Alexander the Great used catapults, lithobolos and these oxybeles in the siege of the city of Tyre in 332 BC. After defeating the persian fleet around Tyre, Alexanders army was able to storm the city via a ramp build towards the island state by the Macedonian engineers. 8000 soldiers and civilians from Tyre were killed and 30.000 people were enslaved.
