Gentlemen, I am about to put on a fictional wargame between my Muslim army and my Indian army. Does any one know if the Indian forces would have been equipped like those from the era of Chandragupta? Of course if it is fictional it shouldn't really matter but... just want to make sure it is somewhat accurate. Let me know guys, y'all are a wealth on information. And thanks in advance. Ole Ben

Hi, well between the Maurya-empire and an Arab(?)-Muslim-Century Army are some decades. It would fit better to an Army of the Timurid or better post-timurid period (so the pre-Mughal Empire/ Rajput Rajasthan-Army), but as a concession, there isn't such an Army until now. Now the Fashiondetails: As i know, edited written sources to Maurya-army are just from the alexandrian/successors side, which makes the enemy more wild and less equipped. The timurid period indians (in the north) had their own bad contacts with the mongol west campaigns, so there should be some historiographical record, and there was some new (= more) armoury (for man and horse) and more "asian-like" cavalry. But if you combine few Mongols and Arabs with the ancient indians there shouldn't be to much mistakes, and not just because the fantasy-aspect > in every army there is the question of financing arms, irregular troops, tradition and influences. But there are surely some illustrated booklets which helps much more (PlasticSoldierReview-Notices)

Book 2: 500BC to 476AD DBM army list carries a lot of information about several period Indian armies. Available from all the usual sources, just a matter of getting the cheapest one.

Thanks guys! Very Helpful. It is an interesting time period (Rise of Islam) and since my Muslim army has soundly defeated my East Roman/Byzantine Army, I was looking to expand the arena. Again many thanks and I will have pics up soon.
