Wow, HaT, very exciting test sprews of your Unmarried Zulus! Well thought-out poses and lots of action in these warriors. I can see these men fighting hand-to-hand with the British at the mealie bags. Thrust, thrust, stab! Plenty of poses here for all the intense action scenes in the movie "Zulu." This set has many nice 3-D poses that can even take a little hot water/cold water treatment to reposition some of the arms/shields for protection in those up-close scenes. And let's not forget we've got the great set of the British commanders to go face-to-face with these warriors. But back to these, some of my favorite poses here are also the running warriors getting to the action. Most manufacturers never quite get this necessary pose right, but here totally authentic. This set will also complement the first set well. In that set there are several excellent poses standing and taunting the British. So, for me, combined, you've given us mostly all poses to recreate the movie's scenes, as well as a full complement of fighting action poses any new customer could hope to find in the two boxes. Further, I do hope you make these in this nice brown color you are showing us here. I absolutely can't wait to combine both of these sets and plug in my video/DVD. These guys are going to come flying out of the boxes and straight across my battle field, stop, pound their shields and let out their unforgettable war chants, and then engage the 24th once again! Thank you, HaT, well done.

The Zulu figure bases are unsatisfactory (they are too thick and cover some of the feet) and the mold will be remade.

Great QC, HaT. I'm glad to read you are going to fix the mold. These are really nice figures and since the Zulus were bare-foot, it will be nice to see their toes rather than block feet. As far as I'm concerned, take your time. I've always got other projects I can work on. I'll be here when they are released. OK, take care! - GC

Do you plan on using the nice soft plastic ABS like you did for the first Zulus released also for the Unmarried Zulus after the mold has been remade?
Also you mention elsewhere ... "The new production line will no longer be using the soft plastic that was previously used." Does this mean you will no longer be using ABS soft plastic for all sets and instead going to the harder PVC, or something else for all future production?

We will be using a harder paintable plastic.

Hmm. As a soft plastic collector I don't know what to say. It seems kind of sudden that after all those years of testing to come up with a soft plastic that is both paintable w/out chipping and can be made in nice authentic colors. Oh well.
I've tried Imex, Italeri ... et als, and it's still the soft plastic I like. Maybe it's the hard plastic causing the difficulty of extrication from the mold for the Unmarried Zulus. I've always found broken parts right out of brand new boxes like Imex. Don't forget, the ABS was paintable. But this is old news.
OK, thank you very much for your timely response to my question. It is much appreciated.

Any plastic figure is paintable without chipping. It's not that hard to prep them properly.
Hard, soft: really I don't care as long as the figures are released in a timely manner.

You are offering Ancient Collectors, Napoleonic Collectors and I think Penninsular War Collectors a choice of hard or soft plastic, and I think color choices also, but not Zulu Wars Colonial sets, specifically the Unmarried Zulus - Hard plastic only. Why, or why not, please? Or, am I misunderstanding?
Would you please make clear what your plans are. Thank you if you would! - GC

I don't think theres any suggestion "hard" kit type plastic is going to be used for 1/72

You yourself participated in the unmarried Zulu warrior color question.

They've got feet!
Feet that look like they could run 20 miles on, then fight a battle.
They're looking very good.

All of the sets in your links use separate shields.
I agree with GC here a lot of these Zulus look like a bit of hot water will swing the shield round to the front quite nicely and a bit of an undercut between arm and shield might make them even better.
Something to have fun with when they get here.

Dear Admin: These Unmarried Zulus look great. The engineers did a nice job of giving the warriors their feet back.
Questions:
1. Is the running figure with separate arm still included, or did he get cut from the final sprew? Hard for me to tell. He was/is actually one of my favorite poses.
2. Did you use a harder plastic on these test shots, or is it your old (and always lovely) soft plastic? The pictures of the sprews look fairly soft.
3. Is your long-term plan still to use a harder plastic for all sets as a general rule as answered above? (Can you tell I prefer soft plastic!?)
Keep up the great work. I'll be buying my share for sure. No doubt this will be a very popular and successful. Alright, "Lets get sweat'n again") - GC
