Brian Yes they are on the large side. However combined with the rest of the Portuguese army then they they are ok
I plan to reduce the height of the horses by significantly reducing the thickness of the base

Sassanid Saravan infantry - a blend of Zvezda heads,Hagen miniatures metal torsos and Hat weapons and arms. Basically Sassanid clibanarri or cataphracts dismounted Inspired by Harry Sidebottom!
Next up Napoleonic Portuguese cavalry

Well said “disgusted of Tunbridge”
A disappointment that begn with the Sassanid cavalry has continued with the French infantry - they are all midgets
Now made the decision not to look forward to or buy any future Hat issues. And that’s after circa 150 boxes over the years

They are beautiful figures, but in my opinion slightly too small
I have a wide collection of Peninsular figures both plastic and metal and the Italeri French dragoon’s fit in very well

Agree with many of the contributors
Best sets have to be Roman Medium Cavalry , Sassanid Infantry, All the El Cid range, French 1808-12 infantry, Spanish guerrilas. These all came out around the same time and look similar in sculpturing style
Poorest set is the Sassanid Clibinari - waited 15 years for midgets! Enough moaning - without Hat my armies wound be rather thin on the ground

All Would give my support to the Sassanid elephants - as long as the figures are not the same size and/or sculptor as the recent cavalry
I purchased 6 boxes of cavalry and have only used the horses along with converted riders from other suppliers

I have several boxes of Spanish Moors converted to serve in the armies of Sassanid Persia,Palmyra and Rome(as Arab auxiliaries)
Apart from changing some of the shields they are as manufactured. All for around the Third Century Some of Hat's best figures!
Looking at Osprey books and other sources they seem reasonably accurate

In my view sadly the golden age of Hat has gone
Waited 10 years for their Sassanid cavalry to arrive and recently I have started painting the horses ( combining them with riders from another manufacturer ) The riders are far too small Both horses and riders lack any detail. The product on the sprue is a shadow of the original pictures or indeed the two Sassanid infantry sets - which are superbly executed
This is feedback from someone who has purchased 100+ boxes of Hat product

Sassanid Clibanarii and Late Roman for comparison on size. The Roman is certainly on good army rations!

Just received the new Sassanid cavalry Not impressed at all! Especially after a ten year wait since they were first announced in December 2007
Two main criticisms :- 1. The sculpting is not sharp and crisp. Lacking in definition. They look as iif the mould is reaching the end of its natural life after a mega run 2. This is more serious as no amount of diligent painting can overcome this. They are just far too small. Compare with your Late Roman cavalry in size - which were a high water mark of your production Clibanari were seriously big armoured horseman not midgets! I have bought circa 200 boxes of Hat products over the years and this is my first ever complaint....Tony
