Dear Cole,
That is a magnificent scene! So many beautifully painted figures and such brilliant terrain. A section of the Battle of Großbeeren perhaps?
I'll be interested to hear from you about which items were purchased pieces and what was scratch built. The grass looks a bit like carpet, or is it the railway/terrain grass? The moss/vines on the memorials in the cemetery provide an excellent effect.
Wonderful photos that delight with details and little 'extras' the more you look.
Regard, James

I have to agree, a truly magnificent diorama. Superlatives fail.

Thanks, gentlemen! Most terrain features in these photos were purchased, rather than made, but most have been altered/painted in some way. There are some 3d prints, christmas village terrain, prepainted Dungeons and Dragons terrain, etc. Most were repainted and touched up with flock, ivy pieces, moss, etc. to help them settle in to the scenery a bit. The killing fields battle mats look great but I plan to make some of my own eventually with Teddy bear fur, particularly because I want some tall, golden wheat fields. I had never really intended to collect any Wurttemberg figures, other than a few Jager, to focus on French and not overwhelm myself with too many armies, but I stumbled on a large, beautifully painted Napoleonic collection with a handful of Wurttembergers (around 25). I really liked the uniforms and the scenarios all the small German states' armies could offer, so I decided they needed some reinforcements. Hat figures have such lovely, clear sculpting so I think I painted around 65 in the last couple months? After some Mars Old Guard, I'll move onto some Bavarians!
Fielding the Prussian army was also not really a priority for me (I focused primarily on Russians before getting distracted by Austrians for awhile), but acquired around 60 line and landwehr in that same collection purchase, so I painted up the Elbe Landwehr regiment to field enough for a battle (I didn't find out til later that they weren't raised until 1814 and probably didn't fight at all until 100 days campaign, while Wurttemberg switched sides in 1813 after Leipzig). Oh well. As for the battle itself, I was definitely inspired by pictures of Großbeeren, but this was an imaginary battle. I wanted to set up a quick, archetypal battle to show the heavy fighting that oftentimes occurred in graveyards/church grounds, but also wanted to show off my newly painted figures and tombstones without worrying about 100% historical accuracy haha. Thank you all for your kind words!

Oh, I didn't post all the pictures here, but you can check out a bunch more of my collection, as well as a few friends' work, and some of the terrain I have made on my Instagram: my3000bestfriends. I don't believe you need an instagram to see my posts

Cole
So interesting to read how you put this scenario together what were the inspirations and how this found expression in your dioarama. The sources of materials to build into the scene were especially fascinating and where your model scratch building finds full creativity. Well done - great effort. I agree with your comments about Hat's Wurtemburg figures.
