Thank you very much Mr B for your very kind words, they are most appreciated.
I have learned so much over the years both by trial and error, but more importantly from the efforts of fellow forumers.
There is so much more to learn from the masters and it seems that every time I look at Wolfgang Meyer’s work he has raised the bar again!
Nevertheless, if I can trick the viewer into thinking that cameras really were available in 1815 then I am moving towards my goal.
Thank you again.
Best wishes,
Chris

Thank you James, you are very kind.
I am currently working on the next instalment along with preparations for my next re-fight, Antietam 17th September 1862.
The new Hat infantry will be most useful if they arrive in a reasonable time frame.
Thank you again.

The Battle of Quatre Bras 16th June 1815 Timeline 4.40PM The Allied position in the Bois de Bossu has been reinforced by Elements of the Brunswick Corps. Fighting is fierce but the line is holding. Contemporaneously, 3rd Regiment d'Infantrie de Ligne, Colonel Baron Hubert Vautrin is attempting to outflank this position but has been engaged by the Brunswick Avant Garde, Major Adolf von Rauschenplatt. The Herzog von Braunchweig-Luneberg has personally led his hussars in order to halt the French advance at Ferme La Bergerie. A consequence of this is that the hussars are now under accurate French artillery fire. The French attack has stalled and the 42nd Regiment of Line, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Robert Macara, is moving forward to expand the Allied perimeter. The Allied position east of Ferme La Bergerie is under a concerted attack by the French 5th Infantry Division, Lieutenant-General Baron Gilbert-Desiree Bachelu. His Grace, The Duke of Wellington is supervising the defence and support in the form of the Brunswick Leib Battalion under Major Frederich von Prostler is being organised. However, 6th British Infantry Division, Colonel Carl Best, en potence to his Grace's left flank is also being assaulted by the French 2nd Regiment d'Infantrie Leger threatening the Allied rear. Brunswick ulhans, Major Carl Pott commanding, charge the supporting French cavalry to try and relieve the pressure. Marechal Ney, Duc d,Elchingen, Prince de la Moskowa has returned from the front line and receives an update of the action from Lieutenant-general Honare-Charles, Comte Reille. French 2nd Infantry Brigade, Marechal-de-camp Baron Jean-Louis Soye, from Prince Jerome's French 6th Infantry Division is commencing its attack towards the crossroads. French 1st Corps, Lieutenant-general Jean-Baptiste Drouet, Comte d'Erlon is expected to arrive shortly. Ney is advised that lieutenant-general Francois-Etienne-Kellerman, Comte Valmy is awaiting orders. Unfortunately, as per his earlier order, only the 2nd Brigade, Marechal-de-camp Baron Marie-Adrien Guiton from the 11th French cavalry Division is present. Nevertheless, the order to advance is immediately despatched. The action is reaching its critical stage, the honour of France is at stake. Vive L'empereur, Avant!

Your ability to create diffuse atmospheric light gives these images a life of their own. The rider being blown asunder by a cannonball is a treat for those who insist on realism in war - warts and all. Anything else would be dishonest frankly and detract from the horror these men faced in battle. Should anyone say "that's just too much" you can tell them "yes, war is". Fantastic work, we're all slack-jawed from viewing these.

Thank you for all your lovely comments about my work. It is very humbling indeed.
The battle is reaching its critical phase as the French attack reaches a crescendo.
Will the Allies hold out until more re-inforcememts arrive or will they be swept away by the massive French onslaught........
Happy modelling,
Chris

The Battle of Quatre Bras 16th June 1815 Timeline 4.50PM Overview. The French 5th Infantry Division, Lieutenant-General Baron Gilbert-Desiree Bachelu and French 9th Infantry Division Lieutenant-General Maximillian-Sebastian, Comte Foy are heavily engaged with the Allied centre and left wing. This massive assault is causing the Duke grave concern. Meanwhile, 2nd French Infantry Brigade, Marechal-de-camp Baron Jean-Louis Soye, from Jerome Bonaparte's 6th French Infantry Division. continues its remorseless advance on the Allied centre. The Brunswick hussars, Major Frederich von Cramm commanding, have charged the French infantry between the Bois de Bossu and Ferme La Bergerie and despite suffering heavy casualties on the approach are engaged in a melee. Unfortunately, the British artillery is severely handicapped in target acquisition by undulating terrain and the tall crops. Nevertheless, No2 Company Royal Artillery Brevet Major Thomas Rogers has redeployed to assist the Allied centre. His Grace, The Duke of Wellington has received news that 3rd British Infantry Division, Lieutenant-General Count Carl von Alten is approaching Quatre Bras, but, will it be soon enough? To add to the Duke's woes, Lieutenant-General Francois-Etienne-Kellerman Comte Valmy is proudly leading the cuirassiers of French 2nd Cavalry Brigade straight at the Allied centre. Marechal Ney senses victory is at hand. 'Avant, la victoire est a nous, mes braves'.

So superb Chris! I particularly like the photo of the Brunswick hussars in close action and that last, marvellous photo of the massed cuirassiers (and lancers).

The Battle of Quatre Bras 16th June 1815 Timeline 5.10PM Overview The Allied left flank is under serious threat as 6th Chasseurs a Cheval, Colonel Paul-Eugene de-Faudouas, rout their Hanoverian opponents and penetrate the Allied rear. General Willem, the Hereditary Prince of Orange-Nassau is personally leading the reformed 5th Belgian Light Dragoon regiment, along with Major-General Baron Jean-Baptiste van Merlen to counter their advance. The Chasseurs are supported by French 5th Infantry Division, Lieutenant-general Baron Gilbert-Desiree Bachelu whose advance has caused the 79th Regiment of foot to retire to a new position as the Allied defence perimeter is threatened with envelopment. 8th British Infantry Brigade, Major-General, Sir James Kempt has been forced to form square as the French cuirassiers of French 2nd Cavalry Brigade, Marechal-de-camp Baron Marie-Adrien Guiton approach. This has reduced their effective musket frontage and they are being subject to a blizzard of fire from the French of 9th Infantry Division, Lieutenant-general Maximillian-Sebastian, Comte Foy commanding. Only the professionalism of the British Infantry ( 'that article') is preventing a complete collapse in this sector. The cuirassiers await their prey. Meanwhile, Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Picton, along with Lieutenant-General Friedrich Wilhelm, Duke of Brunswick have stabilised the Allied right from Ferme La Bergerie to the Bois de Bossu. Heavy fighting continues in the wood with the Brunswick troops acquitting themselves well against their French opponents. However, events are gathering apace. 3rd British Infantry Division, Lieutenant-General Count Carl von Alten has begun to deploy off the Charleroi-Brussels road and straight into the fight. Marechal Ney, Prince de la Moskowa just has received orders off his Majesty to move against the Prussian right flank at Ligny, some ten kilometres away. 'The fate of France is in your hands' explains the order! Furthermore, General Delcambre, d'Erlon's Chief of staff confirms that 1st Corps is already en route towards Ligny in accordance with his Majesty's order. Ney is incandescent with rage, his victory, surely assured with the the arrival of 1st Corps is now in doubt as further Allied reinforcements are seen arriving. His impetuosity, no doubt fuelled by tiredness, combat fatigue and exasperation drives him against military protocol. Refusing the Emperor's specific orders he issues his own to recall 1st Corps back to Quatre Bras. The fate of France is indeed now in Ney's hands.......

The Battle of Quatre Bras 16th June 1815 Timeline 5.30PM The 28th Regiment of foot commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Charles Belson, and the 32nd Regiment of foot, Lieutenant-Colonel John Hicks commanding have disintegrated under a galling storm of French musketry. Seizing their chance the 11th Cuirassiers, Colonel Eleonore-Ambrose Courtier commanding ruthlessly ride them down capturing the regimental colours of the 28th. Their compatriots in the 8th Regiment, commanded by Colonel Antoine-Laurent Garavaque charge the Brunswick Leib Battalion, Major Friedrich von Prostler commanding. However they are subject to a crossfire from the Brunswickers, elements of the Gordon Highlanders, Lieutenant-Colonel John Cameron commanding, in Ferme La Bergerie and the 44th Regiment of foot, Lieutenant-Colonel John Hamerton commanding, who are in square by the Bois de Bossau. The French advance is contested by English artillery using cannister. 1st Hanoverian Brigade, commanded by Major-General Count Freiderich von Kielmansegge and 5th British Infantry Brigade, Major-General Sir Colin Halkett are deploying rapidly on the Allied left centre. The Divisional artillery under Brevet Major William Lloyd is already in action at the crossroads. Nassau and Dutch-Belgian troops, the remains of the 2nd Netherlands Infantry Division are bravely resisting the French in the Bois de Bossau. 2nd French Infantry Brigade, commanded by Marechal-de-camp Baron Jean-Louis Soye are urged forwards by Lieutenant-General Prince Jerome Bonaparte in the quest for victory and military glory! Pour le Empereur,,,,,

I am running out of ways to say 'marvellous' and 'magnificent' Chris! These images are so atmospheric and evocative that one feels transported back 205 years. Brilliantly composed and photographed. They are all superb, but the one of the highlanders in the building is simply amazing. The final, overview shot "Pour l'Empereur" highlights the beauty of your diorama-style game. Thank you for the joy and inspiration that you provide. Now it is on to Wavre or back to Gilly, I hope?! James
