I am currently painting hats Austrian cavalry sets trying to bulk up my Austrian army I have just finished painting hats Napoleonic British light infantry which was bit of a test to say the least. On the non hat front I have been painting The Redbox Napoleonic Russian infantry sets they are nice slender figures but there is quite a lot of flash to remove first I also started a box of Airfix ww2 German infantry as well. On the vehicle front I have bought a few of the Chinese kits on ebay they are only £3 or so & are a lot better than they used to be The Opel Blitz & USA half tracks are amazing for the price try them out what have you to lose.

Interesting, what manufacturer are the Chinese kits? A few pounds for a 1/72 model sounds like a bargain these days.
It's Napoleonics with me at present. I use a 1:30 figure scale for this era and have three large battalions of British 1815 foot guards which are mainly Revell figures and which are WiP and starting to look good. It's 100 figures (32 figures per battalion + various mounted officers, or 1000 actual men per battalion) and all those white belts and lacing takes a fair amount of time to paint!
The original Revell moulds have very small heads, but I have enough HaT Peninsular Infantry sets to provide Belgic shakoes for all. So before painting started, I head swapped all the figures. They now have heads which are a bit 'larger' and look much better for it.
Will look forward to the new HaT Peninsular British dragoons in true 1/72 scale very soon.....This will provide an impetus to paint some 1812 British and Portuguese infantry as well.

The Chinese models are made by 4D they made really bad tanks a few years ago the latest ones are a lot better, the best model is the Opel Blitz I think it better than the airfix version. The kits have good instructions & are simple to build I would also recommend the USA halftrack but its tracks are a bit poor the M35 truck is nice but no use for WW2. I am awaiting the German halftrack but that looks good as well. they also make a PAK 40 gun with three nice multipart figures & a diorama base as well as a USA howitzer again with a base just search for 4D models on ebay what have you got to lose?

Thanks for the tip. The Opel Blitz looks like a good kit for the price, and their Pak40 also looks good. I note that earlier releases are less good. Henk of Holland doesn't recommend these as kits for modellers, but as a way of providing your German or US wargames infantry with some cheap transport, these are ideal.

I started painting some Hat Romans a while back--Republicans, with Hastati and Velites, Princeps and Triari. Not done yet; add a color every week or so.
I'm painting some Napoleonic Austrians as part of a project to rebuild an Austrian army. As the figures were based & organized at 16 figures per battalion, and I need them to come in at 18 figs per battalion, I need some new recruits. And I'd like a few new regiments, too. So, I'm painting a few boxes of Hat Austrian line, a box of Grenadiers, and two boxes of Grenzers. Also painting up a box of landwehr as Jagers, and a couple of Revell French Hussars to be Austrian Hussars.
And then there's Flames of War, but that's in 1/100, so will say no more here.

Zvesda Grenadiers of Frederick the Great.
A bit bigger than my fairly large HaT Prussians but I get SYW figures where I can.

Kind of mislaid my mojo of late. Trying to expand my French Napoleonic battalions from 12 figures to 16 as they look so pathetic on the gaming table. And then I’ve gotten drawn into expanding regiments from one battalion to two or three, and adding skirmisher figures. Very difficult to source decent NCOs and porte-aigles that don’t look out of scale with my existing figures. Retro fitting plumes to create voltigeurs and grenadiers is proving an especial test of my limited modelling skills.

As the work space also doubles as the garage and attic access, all the holidays storage boxes tend to get in the way. Right now there is a hiatus happening. Once things get back to normal there will be some restructuring and reorganization of the work bench area then we shall see where that leads me.

Spurt of energy over Christmas has led to preparation of many figures for painting: Austrians (Esci & Italeri), 1799 Russians (Irregular conversions), WW2 DAK, Desert Italians, 8th army and various airborne forces... oh and tanks.

Dear, I am very amateur, but I love to paint figures and play table wargames. I am painting three sets of French Napoleonic infantry post 1812 through 1815.

Everybody is an amateur when they first start you will pick it up the more you paint the better you will get then after a year or so you will probably look back at your earlier efforts & decide the need a repaint because you have got so much better that's what happened to me anyway good luck.

Right now on my bench I have some Hat Austrian Landwehr. Actually painting a dozen as Jagers (the uniform is close enough for me) and the rest will be Landwehr. Then on to some Hussars.

I've got to finish up some HaT Prussian Landwehr I started over a year ago as well as a Zulu War Wagon thing I've been doing. I had my oldest son and his family come back from overseas and stay with us about six months and everything stopped - I just haven't been able to get it back going again.

Recent hat products I have been painting are Bavarian cavalry & artillery also a couple boxes of Brunswick cavalry witch are very nice but a nightmare to fit the arms on the figures. I have also adding to my British, Austrian, Brunswick, and Russian infantry' s using another manufactures products. I am currently working my way through my big pile of fast build tank kits from PSC how many panzer III does a man need ask myself.? .

Hi Steve,
A month ago I finished the Hypaspists to strengthen my Macedonian army, I recently finished the Late Roman medium infantry and I am now painting their adversaries, the Sassanid levy infantry. As you probably figured out by now I am all into Ancients 🤓 Now. Napoleon (I did those in my youth, mainly from Airfix then) is in the past for me.

It's been nearly a year and a half since I last posted so I will try to list only the HaT sets that I've painted since then: French Army: 1805-1812 infantry Grenadiers Early artillery Line Chasseurs (mounted) Horse Grenadiers voltigeurs Young guard Early French infantry 8146 Austrian Army: Shako infantry Grenadiers Landwehr Grenzers Line artillery Horse Artillery Cuirassier Chevaux leger Dragoons (chevaux leger conversions)
In total I've probably done 150 cavalry, 600 infantry and 32 artillery pieces w/crews thus far.
So HaT sets account for 1/3 to 1/2 of all the figures I've done over the last year with the French infantry 1805-1812 and early artillery being my favorite French sets to paint. Among the Austrians it's the grenadiers, landwehr, cuirassier, chevaux-leger and both artillery sets. They are all a joy to paint. A big tip of the hat to HaT for producing such fine sets. Well done HaT, well done! - Bessiere

Working on some Boxer rebellion conversions. Dressing up some German and American troops in Winter uniforms. Oh, and converting a Marx "Navarone" playset for use with 1/72 scale troops.

I have recently been painting the hat Prussian infantry MAC sets & I have been Quite impressed how they have turned out the three sets really do go together to make a great looking unit hope the Austrians are as nice. Before the Prussians i went all ww2 painting the German & British infantry sets from the plastic soldier company, nice figure but fitting the heads, arms & weapons is a bit of a pain,I also built 15 tanks by PSC as well that was a breeze & a pleasure. I have just received 8 boxes of Napoleonic soldiers from another company & I am looking forward to starting one one of the Prussian cavalry sets soon. I have just painted my 6,000 figure out of a stash of 14,000 figures & have built 265 AFV's from a total of 320.

Highlanders. They're Tumbling Dice metals (20mm) & ostensibly for my Covenanter army but, really, you could use them for a far broader time span.
Shall I tell you how much fun painting tartan is?

Just finishing off the 30th Cambridgeshire regt for Waterloo. That will be all of Halketts brigade done then. Mostly a mix of the old Revell British Line and Newline Metal figures (Kneeling). I have got some Newline Hannoverians which are a tad small but still wothin 20mm. I intend on using them out on the flank (Bests Brigade) so shouldnt matter too much. They all have flat caps which distinguishes them from the usual redcoats but I might get some Newline Peninsular Brits with the stovepipe and mix in with them to add a bit of variety. Once ive done them ive got to finish off the 79th Highlanders.....i do a few at a time due to as already mentioned, Tartan being a right mare to do!!
