I would like see more figures actually firing in the action set, you could replace the figure standing at attention (as he defies the remit of in action in my opinion)with another standing or kneeling firing figure after all the idea of a battle is to shoot the enemy is it not?.

so, how long do I have to wait? Again ten years? And to have both with shakos, I am supposed to buy the double? This thread is here to ask for your suggestions. I have to say I share Mr Schmitt's concerns. Although I have no interest in collecting Austrians I wouldn't like to see a growing necessity to have to buy multiple sets to get the required basic parts. That just smacks of greedy marketing. I recall a comment about Napoleonic British Command having insufficient heads/hats for all parties to be wearing the same style. The response from Hat was you can get more heads from the British Peninsular Infantry set. Seems to be simple. However the command were release many years after the Peninsular set, by which time I suspect many collectors had discarded their spares of years before. Not only that the availability of the Peninsular set to those who had to reinvest was, at best, limited and, at worst, so low as to command inflated prices. By luck or design it was a potential money making coup, but not ideal for the collector. The probability of an extended time lapse between compatible sets is just one of those things. It's nice to see Hat closing one of the many gaps in the hobby though. Can I mention Hundred Days Netherlands cavalry again?

heads are not a problem: there is nothing easier to clone than a head with a cylindrical hat. From the oyumaru, a little green stuff and go ... For the same price I prefer to have 48 figures with a single head model than 32 figures with 3 models of differents heads.

Great work HAT! I think the loose headgear is a great solution! I just hope they will be released in 1/32 scale too! :-)

Not only there is no point in having a standing at attention sculpt in the action set, but he also happens to be an NCO, and a third- yes, A THIRD! - of the set is made of this sculpt (4 out of 12 models in the sprue). I really hope Hat addresses this.

There should be sufficient shakos and helmets on the sprue for both the Germans and the Hungarians. That's how the SYW Prussians were molded. The number of firing poses should be increased to 4 and "at attention" reduced to 2. Thanks for asking.

I don't think having guys standing at attention is a bad thing in a Napoleonic set - particularly considering that's how soldiers spent most of their time - even in battle - standing in formation or marching from point A to point B. I know it's not exciting, but "Hurry up and Wait!" is a common experience shared by soldiers since someone got the bright idea to organize warfare. As an old NCO myself - I have no objections to NCOs - having been an avid collector since the dawn of the 1960s I've always thought "three stripers" are long overlooked. Besides, just the fact that the troops have their weapon grounded to their right doesn't necessarily make them NCOs. I'm not an expert on the old Austrian manual of arms, but as one familiar with such things in the US Army there is a move whereby one grounds one's weapon on one side of the body (example: right side) then at command to "Shoulder Arms!" and the command could be "Right Shoulder Arms!" (usual today) or "Left Shoulder Arms" (usual then), the soldier would lift the weapon up, grasp it with both hands, and then place it on the appropriate shoulder. Therefore, troops COULD have their weapons grounded at their right and upon command lift their weapons and place it on their LEFT shoulders. An amazing thing, really. Apparently, from numerous illustrations - VOILA! Now, while other manufacturers seem open to input from their customers in future sets and that is greatly appreciated; I think HaT has gone a step farther and actually posted a poll to try and meet demand for this next set. Apparently, even that is not enough to satisfy some. I've been reading the comments and requests (some demands?) on this set and wonder how on earth HaT is going to satisfy EVERYONE - or anyone, for that matter. Joe Schmudlapp wants them taller so Bill Hickenlicker says he wants the smaller to match is Munchkin Army. Arnie Flipperdipper wants separate heads, Bill says he wants just the hats. Bert Wowziewoozoo wants one piece figures so Bill says he really wants all possible hats with varied fieldpack configurations included - but make the set with 48 figures keeping it at the same price as your early sets. Oh, make sure you also bring out Uhlans, Curassiers, Dragoons, Horse Arty with full caissons and baggage wagons at the same time so I can field my entire army the day after you bring them out even though I have ten thousand figures waiting to be painted in my closet. "Yes, if you do EVERYTHING I ask I will buy a thousand boxes because I have unlimited income to pay on toy soldiers and buy AT LEAST a thousand boxes of EVERY set that comes out." Gotta love it. I am reminded of a story I read in my childhood. It was called "Tyll's Masterpiece." Tyll was a legendary jokester. I remember when I was a kid there was a storybook or two about him in our school library. Funny, I just googled him and his full name was Master Tyll Owlglass - I think it's the same character. I might get the book and re-read it. Until then, I'll have to share this from memory. Anyway, as I recall he lived sometime in the late Middle Ages or early Renaissance and rambled around the countryside making his living pulling pranks and practical jokes. As I think of it now, he really was a kind of con artist. In this story he showed up in one small kingdom passing himself off as a great painter of portraits. The king heard about what a great artist he had in his kingdom and immediately summoned him to his palace to commission him to do a portrait of the royal family. Now the royal family wasn't the prettiest bunch of people Tyll had ever laid his eyes on (years later when I was studying Art History I was reminded of this story when contemplating Goya's portrait of Charles IV of Spain). So he swallowed hard and set about his work, perhaps wondering what he'd gotten himself into. As each member of the royal family sat for him they had their own "requests." The queen's fat sister warned him that he'd better paint her thin. His skinny brother warned him he'd better make him muscular and handsome. A niece didn't want a prominent wart on her cheek on the picture, another wanted their nose made smaller, you get the idea. So Tyll is working away at the picture (maybe he COULD paint after all) when the king got him to the side and warned him he'd better paint a completely accurate picture of his family for posterity or there would be a severe punishment. What do you do in that situation? How do you please everyone and keep your head? Well, when the day of the revealing of the portrait came the entire family was gathered. Each got Tyll to the side, "Remember, I'd better be THIN!" "I'd better be HANDSOME!" "I'd better not see this wart!" And then the King, "This had better we ACCURATE!" So Tyll took a deep breath and yanked the cover off the painting to reveal - A blank canvas. There was a collective gasp. "What's the meaning of this!!! " cried the outraged king. Tyll explained, listing all the individual requests and threats he had received and finishing with the king's own demand the portrait be completely accurate. "Sire," Tyll said in his best ingratiating tone. "The only way I could meet all your demands was to present a blank canvas so each can see what they want to see on it!" The king sat for a moment, his brow furrowed in deep thought. Tension filled the room and Tyll was probably looking for a good way out. Then the king burst out laughing, "Master Tyll, the joke is certainly on us. You are correct, we had put you in an impossible position and you found the only way out! Let this be a lesson to all of us!" He ordered Tyll to receive twice his commission on the painting. I know HaT welcomes our input and takes all our suggestions seriously. But I hope we realize there is only so much that can be done that is practical. We want our sets - we want them NOW. Has anyone considered whether or not our suggestions might delay production - an already complex global enterprise - further? I would hate for our demands to be so unreasonable we end up with an empty box instead of what looks to be an excellent set of much awaited Austrians. By the way, can we have swappable heads and interchangeable instruments/beer steins/wenches on the Pommeranian Piccolo Players?

Actually no one wants the same thing and it will be very difficult to decide for hat. It seems to me that the best way to make a choice is to look at what has sold or not in the past: 8219 has not been found for years why? Is it because the number of boxes produced was lower than the others or is it because this box corresponded exactly to the demand in terms of size, number of poses and accessories? And unlike that why some references are sold much cheaper in stores (because they do not interest people) the period does not interest people, the figurines are too big or too small, or ugly ... The format MAC is a real good idea to meet the needs of everyone. Is it profitable to want to do even more detail? Customers of 20 mm and 28 mm do they have the same needs?

That is a great shame- I am glad they don't have separate packs but separate helmets is worse and pointless if you don't provide alternative headgear.

Hi, for me, both types of head gear should be included in all the sets, with enough of each for all the figures. Looking at the poll result at the top of this thread that is what most people voted for....both types of head gear. I think a set with both head gears will sell very well indeed. More NCOs is what the poll result showed so no surprise there are more than other command types. Back packs on was also the poll result. Both head gears, back packs on, few extra NCOs and all those who responded to the poll should be happy and buy lots of boxes of Napoleons most determined European foe.

I am relatively new to 1/72 scale and have decided to make it my napoleonic wargaming scale. Any idea on ballpark release dates for these? I have everything for Austrians except line infantry. These sets are just what I need. Not sure if it will be too long of a wait though.

It seems to me that Austrian troops with shakos have already existed for 20 years: this is the 8027 box. The price of a box has increased from 5 € 50 to 7 € 50 in three years. So my buying logic is simple, I prefer the knapsacks attached to the figurines but the majority prefer separate backpacks. The majority prevails and it is normal. So there are more than 40 figures per box but it's a good compromise. If heads are added there will be only 32 or 24 figures per box. So if I need about 200 figurines : i need 4 boxes of 48 figurines, 5 boxes of 40 figurines or ... no box at all: it's too expensive. To put it simply: it seems to me that what you have presented on the first page is the best format but without the separate helmet.

Hi dear Wagram1809, I think it is written that actually backpacks attached is the prefered option and the box will have 48 figures each. My only minor concerns for the Autrian fans is that the backpacks options seems to show swords + bayonets and if these are attached it is only valid for grenadiers and NCO gears so Hat may want to clarify that point. Cheers. CPN

Updated proposal:
Figures all with helmets attached. Extra shako heads as can be fit on to sprue. Backpacks to be attached without grenadier option (sword). (8918 already available.)
Action box: 2 standing figures (he is not NCO) switched to 1 firing and 1 loading figure.

That sounds like all of the issues have been adressed and this will provide the best possible set for most people. Very well done!
Good idea to provide an extra loading figure with the extra firing figure; I think it's best to have equal amounts of firing and loading.

Action box: 2 standing figures (he is not NCO) switched to 1 firing and 1 loading figure. Regarding the swords on backpacks all the Command figures would still need swords and now that more space has been made by attaching helmets and backpacks to make room for shakos perhaps a good idea is to have one or two spare swords or backpacks with swords to attached creating Grenadiers if required or we could keep the swords on and just snip them off. Grenadier set is actually 8198.

Yes I support ideas of having figures with extra heads and I hate separate helmets& headgear that’s is only reason why I didn’t buy your prussians because it’s is much easier to fix whole heads versus separate headgear.
