With the 'other' company not producing their sets of guns/gunners except as single game pieces there is going to be a screaming need for a French Foot Artillery set. Usual 4 cannon and 16-20 gunners. Would like to see HaT step into this or its back to scrounging for the '2nd other' Guard Foot Artillery and cutting and moving heads
with shakos on them.

We do need a new French guard artillery set badly as well I cant understand why there are so many French infantry sets covering all timelines of the Napoleonic campaigns, yet so few French Artillery options in general & the Guard Artillery in particular. The artillery were Napoleons pride & joy his daughters he would turn in his grave if he could see how few options are available to wargamers & collectors today.

I agree the Napoleonic period really struggles in our hobby with all nations lacking artillery and a broader mix of crews covering the various stages of their duties. I would also love many more limbers and caissons for all periods especially Prussians. Zvezda set a great standard which i would love all manufactures to match.

Yes, I completely agree. Indeed, it's extraordinary to think how few really good 'mainstream' French Napoleonic artillery sets have been produced for the period 1809 - 1815. There is a definite opportunity for HaT here.
My vote would go for a set with 2 or 3 guns (with interchangeable barrels allowing 6 or 8 pounder options), about 5 or 6 crew per gun, command figure, and probably a limber and team. A format not unlike some other 1/72 producer whose name escapes me right now....
This would allow a decent wargames battery to be produced from one box, or a 1:1 ratio model battery for diorama purposes from 2 boxes.

I would even vouch for a good Field Piece with crew set to go with the excellent support wagons already in the production stream. We need some later period crews and guns to go with the caissons, limbers and wurst wagons we already have. I think we could have a great French Arty arm. That's not saying a completely new complete arty set would break my heart. It has been awhile since set 8039; perhaps just new crew? I think the gun still holds up well.

The guns for the 1805 French Artillery are perfectly adequate, and 8039 is probably as good a horse artillery set as you could wish for. Line foot figures and drivers for post 1812 are what is needed.

They look like "I came for a ballet dance and they are throwing a hoedown..." changing heads won't help alot 1809 on.

I would love more detailed artillery at the cost of less guns per pack and making limbers and caissons separate. 6lb howitzer,8 and 12 lb barrel options would be ideal. 8lb were the mainstay of the French artillery as were all the lighter pieces of the Allied armies. Separate packs of horses, rifles, carbines, lances and swords are also something I would definitely purchase.

Italeri make a fairly good pack of Guard Horse arty, though the limbers look a bit suspect and the uniforms are a bit generic. It's still freely available as part of their Napoleonic artillery earthworks set. What's really lacking is the Guard Foot arty, with their 12 pounders and bearskins. Most of the current stable of offerings (esp Esci's) are inadequate to say the least, the bearskins especially.
