Dear Christian,
Ah, the joy of Airfix French infantry! (I presume by the beige of the bases that these actually were Airfix originals too?).
I know that some consider these figures a little 'tired' compared with more recent options, but I never tire of them!
Regards, James

I loved most of Airfix's box art, sometimes more than the figures themselves. This one was not one of their best but still better than the figures. (All pictures taken from PSR) Both this set and the British Infantry came out in 1972 but I think they had different sculptors. The figures seemed top heavy to me with big torsos and thin legs. It had 14 poses, which if not wasted were at least quirky. For example why these two almost the same poses and what were they doing? What was this man doing? The famous wounded buddy pose. If you bought several boxes you could have a section of them. The dead guy pose was rare and useful. It was too bad that this set didn't get to be remade with the 1/32 poses or postponed so they were made with them the first time like the Imperial Guard.

A classic set even if their a bit ugly...Did they use the firemans lift in the Napoleonic wars, I think I've seen it used in WW1?

Imagine a future civilization digging in our ruins and finding this figure. They're going to conclude that fireman's carry was invented during the Napoleonic Wars based on these little funerary figures.

The anatomy on these figures is a little odd.
But they paint up well & the nostalgic value overcomes any nit-picking.
Nice work.

For most of us in the hobby Airfix was genesis. The wide range of conversions we made do with before specialists like hat and others came on the scene was amazing.
