Our big Australia Day game is Monday. I've been marshalling my contribution: about 1000 FoG points of Celts who will have to face off against a rather formidable Polybian Roman force. They're a colourful bunch. One of my pals refers to them as 'The Licorice all-sorts'. The elite- Gaestati - tattoos and all-armoured infantry & cavalry & slingers: The warbands: The cavalry & chariots: I don't expect to win. I've never yet beaten the Romans. But it should be fun. I'll post some game photos later. donald

Field of Glory: Ancient & Medieval.
They're a bit dense but once you get your head around them, work quite well.

My pals are providing the opposing army but I was told my Roman marching fort was needed. I've garrisoned it with some of my Newline Polybians for "eye-candy" purposes. donald

Dear Donald,
A wonderful looking army, colourful and varied. The different manufacturers/poses, particularly for the warbands, really add to the effect of a 'barbarian' army.
'Remember Allia'!

Dear Donald,
Ah, your follow-up post beat my comment.
These 'Wo-mans' look splendid in their fort. Guess that you'll just have to raise it to the ground...

We had a very enjoyable game: the scenario was a type of Teutoberg Forest concept. The Romans had to traverse the board (hilly & forested) to reach the fort, whilst the Celts lay hidden in ambush. This was handled by map movement. The ultimate goal: The Romans were in two columns. The going was tough. Movement & visibility both limited the usual Roman superiority: In spite of due vigilance the smaller Roman column was largely wiped out. Ultimately, attacks broke out on all sides. Sadly, the main Romans were worn down & unable to reach the fort before nightfall. donald
