Are they suitable to use for Crusades of the Middle East without any major conversion work? I ask because all other major sets by other makers have Saracen cavalry or combined infantry and cavalry with few foot soldiers.

Two yesses to that question. Their El Cid Spanish make great Crusaders, too.

Thank you, can't believe I missed these sets. In these days one should remember just how much HäT has given over the years, these sets are so useful, two 96 figure infantry sets for both sides that can be used for many parts of history, as well as a terrific command set with good sculpting.

The El Cid sets were very well thought out, dividing Heavy and Light Cavalry in two boxes so that the customer could decide on the ratio. The two command sets are the real treasure. One of the Monks is now with my Conquistadors, allowing Friar Tuck to go back and join Robin Hood. The command figure with a horn reminds me of the story of Roland. All in all amongst the best sets that Hat has ever produced.
Best regards,
Malcolm

The 28mm sets were even better, shame the range was never completed, especially when the most useful ones were those missed

I'd like a Spanish shield wall minibox as none of the men in the otherwise great infantry set are using their shields properly i.e. held towards the enemy. Range is not complete without this.

That could be worth thinking about for the Napoleonics as well. Depends on the economics of course as price wise they would need to be competetive with the multi-part competition. They were an excellent value for money product.

On the main website If you go to the marching through time section scroll down to the peninsular sets it now says alongside them to be remade, that that says to me that Hat are already planning to release these sets in the one true scale hooray!

Admin! Why were we not informed?!? !!!!
Sorry for the hi-jack. I looked through the El Cid figures on PSR; they do look really very good. The Spanish Command set looks superb.
More expense!

You should see some great shots of the HaT Moors and El Cid line; I know I did a series of pix with them painted as Crusaders, etc.; and there were much better painters than I whose work was on there, too. 'Give you an idea of the possibilities.

The HaT figures covering the Norman invasion is horrible...Also while I'm at it, the Moors as ancient Persians?

I have several boxes of Spanish Moors converted to serve in the armies of Sassanid Persia,Palmyra and Rome(as Arab auxiliaries)
Apart from changing some of the shields they are as manufactured. All for around the Third Century Some of Hat's best figures!
Looking at Osprey books and other sources they seem reasonably accurate

For sure; I've used the Spanish/Crusaders for Normans - they're useful for just about any Western European of the era I should think and a few might work for Eastern European, as well, depending on how pedantic one wants to be. My philosophy is, "they're my soldiers, I'll do what I want with them; if I want to have them storming the beaches at Normandy in my games and setups it's no one's business..." Of course, I like a bit more authenticity but to each his own. As far as the Peninsular British Cavalry - another example of HaT listening to us. I always figure the reason there aren't updates is: a) there's nothing to report. b) we're looking in the wrong place. c) we just need a reason to complain. d) all the above?

The only other figures in the store were Bedouin, so guess who got to be the first opponents of DAK? Then I found the Infantry Combat Group and painted them tan. I was elated some time later to discover the 8th Army figures. Finally!
