I hope to see HaT getting to the point of releasing WW1 figures in 2 categories...1) 1914-early1915 then the remainder under 2) late 1915-end of war.l]
The figures out now are fine in their own area of time but there is a huge mix-match of figs from earlier in the war mixing in with late war figures. A clear
defining point in some way noted on the box. The early battles fight a different war then the trench wars starting in late1915. sets designed to be to
fill out the missing portions for the early and later war periods.

I will now spout off like I know absolutely everything about all things. It takes time to issue new uniforms and gear. You don't go to bed in the 1915 uniforms and all wake up in 1916 uniforms. I've seen illustrations and photos from the WW I period with late war poilus wearing red trousers, or Kepis instead of helmets. A unit that may have thought it was in a pastoral bliss of rear lines might find itself taxi cabbed to a mucky trench in an emergency. It reminds me of the decades of complaints about the AirFix WW I Americans and their Montana hats (later reissued by Hat Company.) I for one was very happy with the soft headgear as the uniform was passable for late Indian Wars, the late 1800s, through the Chinese Legations nastiness, on through the Spanish American War, the Poncho Via Pursuit and so forth. And the Doughboys showed up in France for the Big War wearing them. And either a little putty or some guillitoine surgery to swap out helmeted heads would calm any desire for tin hats. One last thought for you. It is very common for Old Vets to hang on to old gear as long as possible as a mark of their longevity.

I can only hope HaT will fill some plugs - late Germans, late Brits, late French, late French heavy weapons, early British and German heavy weapons...I mentioned this on the old forum, but these lines with gigantic holes in them, then moving to new periods is not exactly the best practice. We got two lovely late WW2 heavy weapon sets for the Brits, and what's next? BEF. Meh.

I'm not against posting something like "Early War French WWI Infantry" or something like that in future sets. Accurate box art and at least some basic knowledge of the war takes care of the sets already out as I don't see it cost-effective to change the boxes of the sets already produced.
The one drawback to adding it to future sets is I'm sure someone would find fault with the label "Early War" or "1914-15" on a set for the very reasons egoboy stated. I'm only half-joking here as I've seen folks find fault with the most trivial of issues.

irregardless 1914 uniforms were gone by mid 1915 for the French. Blue pantaloons and helmets were available in quantity. I know I can mix and match but its just not headgear. Gasmask bags make later war figures totally unusable for early war. Would be like having Revolutionary era French at Waterloo or Austrian helmets in 1814. HaT has already created late war and early war. They just need to tighten up the labeling and have 'The Guns of August' version and a "Trench Warfare" version for sets and then divide them up into the two groups and fill them out. Early war tophat Belgians or capped Italians early war don't mix with late war ones with the Adrian helmets. You can have Leonidas and his 300 attacking Rome defended by Imperial Guard Romans for a fun time but they are two eras that really don't mix well.
