Re: this comment from Hefay from the old HaT forum "I would argue that for strict historical accuracy the marching set should be split into two separate sets - a Confederate set with the figures in waist-length shell jackets and a Union set with the figures in the mid-length sack coats. The figure with the long frock coat could be put in either set, both, or in the command set as an NCO." Question: Would you rather have the marching set as is (mixed bodies) or as two sets (figures with shell jackets and figures with sack coats)? Vote here

* Two Sets (figures with shell jackets and figures with sack coats) * Confederates with a large number of Blanket Rolls

I have cast a vote, but just wanted to express a particular interest for the frock coated figure to appear in significant numbers if possible.

Two sets are always better than one, I say.

No question about it, two sets and blanket rolls on most Confederate figures.

I am not desperate for ACW infantry. I have fair sized armies composed of "all the usual suspects". I was going to buy some of the HaT' sets (which are pretty nice) but I've decided I'd hold off & buy the HaT marching sets instead.
Without trying to be rude, I expect them to be nicer. The length of the wait will be more important than the actual mix of figures in the set.

Definitly two separate sets. Confederates in jackets, blanket rolls and hats.

Hello,
My name is Jason Smith. I am a campaigner civil war reenactor and military scientist. I would like to give you my input on the ACW set you will be making. First of all, I highly believe that there should be two different sets. One for Federal and one for Confederate. In this post I will focus on the Federals. The Federals and the Confederates had totally different jacket styles overall. The Federals mostly wore four button sack coats with a fold down collar and reached around mid thigh. Some Federal regiments also wore frock coats which were nine buttons and had skirts that reached halfway to the knees. Additionally, a mixture of waist length jackets were also seen in the Federal army (mostly with the regiments in the Western Theater). Additionally, depending on what theater the set is to portray, the Federal infantry would either wear a forage cap (not a kepi) or a slouch/undecorated dress hat. According to quartermaster reports, photographic evidence, and military logs, the majority of Federal regiments in the eastern theater wore forage caps while the majority of the western theater federals wore undecorated dress (Hardee) hats or civilian slouch hats. Accoutrement wise, the Federals all carried the M1858 Haversack, M1858 Smoothside Canteen or the M1861 Bullseye canteen (the Bullseye came into commonality around 1862), M1858/M1864(later war) Cartridge box, M1858 Gaylord Bayonet scabbard, and the M1858 percussion cap box were all carried by the Federal infantryman. Additionally, with the exception of Zouaves and some VERY rare cases, the Federal infantryman carried his cartridge box by a shoulder belt (sling). Finally, a mixture of blanket rolls and knapsacks should be used in the Federal set. Both methods were common. I hope this helps. I will do a post on the confederate set soon.

I agree with Jason, people tend to think you can use some generic ACW figure for both sides when the styles and equipment would be very different. However if it's only possible to release one set within reasonably time then I'm for it.

Hi, Is there any rough estimate on when these ACW figs would be available? Thanks.

I am a new registrant to this Forum specializing in the ACW. I am always looking for as many variations of ACW figures as I can. My vote is probably too late but I would prefer as many sets as feasible.
Regards.

ACW has always been one of my specializations (hence my avatar!) and I look forward to what HäT will be producing. They broke ground 'way back when with their Zouaves, and I trust the new products will be equally impressive.
