Decided that my next project after getting my Napoleonic French and Swedish armies done, ready for gaming, I've decided I want to do Great Northern War armies next.
In preparation for that day, I bought 2 boxes of the HaT From Narva to Poltava box sets to get started, but aside from the Pikemen in that box, the rest of the infantry is rather bad for what I want my units to look like.
To that end, I've been looking at the Seven Years War Prussians to help fill out army, but I'm not certain of how suitable they would be for the GNW period for either nation.
Any one ever tried to use them for this purpose? And did it look the part? Or would it just be better to look for the Zvezda sets and leave it at that?
Would be awesome if HaT were to make basic sets for this war though. Would make things easy for me.

I think the voluminous clothing & old fashioned style of the GNW uniforms fits in with the French SYW armies. But the SYW Prussians (& specifically the HaT ones) are uniformed in the the much tighter uniforms that Fred, the G. ordered (to save money!) & do not look anything like GNW uniforms.

The Zvezda figures are by far the best currently available for the GNW, although they have some flaws: The Russian set has rather too many kneeling figures for my liking, and the Swedes are modelled in a somewhat 'later' uniform with turnbacks on the coats, and are also slightly smaller and slimmer than their Russian opponents. However, if you can get around these issues then they do provide a good basis for GNW armies.
Neither infantry set provides figures with the 'karpus' cap, but trimming the corners from the tricornes gives a reasonable representation if done carefully, and when viewed from a distance. If you are a competent converter the figures also provide plenty of options for attacking pikemen (converted from the advancing musketeers poses).
The cavalry sets are very good, the artillery sets fantastic!
Good luck.

I would like more SYW sets. I noticed that the Zvedza Russian Artillery for the GNW is great for the SYW with three small 3 pounder battalion guns in each set. My problem is what to use as artillery crew since the GNW figures have no Turnbacks and later figures like the Imex AWI have lapels.
Best regards,
Malcolm

I agree that the Zvezda Swedes are the best for the period, and the slight issues PSR had with them I can easily overlook.
The main issue with them is the near impossibility of getting my hands on some sets, at least enough sets to make a decent army (Especially difficult for the cavalry)
So I thought that maybe the HaT SYW Prussians would make for a decent substitute.
Though I think I might actually have to do some grunt work and chop up the Zvezda models, reposition them and make a few casts to get make my army how I want it (this is especially true for the Pikemen as aside from the large HaT box set there sent any good pikemen in decent numbers in the right-ish uniform)
