The HaT forum has been healthier. Indeed, at times, it was popping.
Now, apart from a trickle of "what set next" posts, pretty well nothing.
Is it the new format? Did people give up the hobby (not for terminal reasons I hope)? Everything possible has been said about 1/72 plastic figures?
Pity, whatever the reason.

Dear Paintdog and dear forumers,
In this forum, as far as I remember, subjects related to Hat sets are preferred. If it was possible to widen a little bit the discussion also to other manufacturers, may be in terms of comparisons, we would be more stimulated to increase the number of posts.
Greetings. Giovanni.

There are quite a few contributions to the gallery but I must confess I have been lax in showing my appreciation of those. The forum is a bit quiet Partly, I think, because of the new format. This one is better than Reddit but even so the old forum was easier to just drop in on. Also Giovanni makes a good point, as we are limited to HaT related topics people might be waiting for something new to post on. On that point I've just seen a couple of things that might spark some discussion: hat.freeforums.net/post/449

AARGH! Things work differently here. As I was saying. That little piece of news and, on a more positive note, this one: A first look at the Landwehr bonus figures.(imagine that I know how to put a smiley face here) hat.freeforums.net/post/451

For me, at least, part of it is the format. I used to be able to go to the forum and see new topics with all the posts displayed under each topic. Now I have to open each topic, see whether there's anything new, then click on that to read the new message. Those two extra clicks may not seem like much, but with a computer as slow as mine, and with the inability to see at a glance what new posts have been added under a topic, I am definitely less likely to just drop in and see what's happening.
As Auda Abu Tayi says to Sherif Ali close to the end of *Lawrence of Arabia*: "These are new tricks, and I am an old dog." :-(

The format means much more is possible, members and even guests can create their own contributions threads for example(and they will remain and be easy to find) but ultimatly the Forum will be what the Members and Guests make of it... You dont get smilys in quick reply (the reasons why its quick is it has no real additional functions) only with Blue Reply (button at the bottom of the thread) or Quote (at the top of a post) take a little time to familiarize yourself with the forum and everything will fall in place, but most of all dont be afraid to ask!

Thanks for the clarifications. We'll figure this out yet. It does seem odd to me that after posting, I am asked to press a button that says "create post". Haven't I been doing that just previous to pressing the button?!?!?!?

I can only sympathize with you. It took me three attempts to start my new thread.
Best regards,

"It does seem odd to me that after posting, I am asked to press a button that says "create post". Haven't I been doing that just previous to pressing the button?" Grumble, You can post in one click using the quick reply and copy and paste anything you want such as links or quote into the panel, you can even use the old bravenet type BBcode if you wish... you just have to figure out what works for you.... Its exactly the same for guests exept that you have to go through the verification process to prove that you are in fact human and not a robot, membership short cuts the process no verification required... this is meant to protect the forum against the thousands of spambots on the internet...if you fail the simple test it wont post.. But I do see your point re the wording could have been "Post Reply"...

Thanks, I'm learning my way around this system. But have been really busy lately, so not much time to get on the Forum. Maybe I'll have items to post as I get ready for Historicon.

Be nice if the 'Preview' worked, gives us less nimble-fingered a chance to correct typos and add the right picture, etc.

Perhaps opening up sub-boards on each period would help. I'd be very surprised if it took more than an hour to do the lot. Then everyone can check out their preferred period quickly and easily then just browse others. Some of the free Plug-ins can also be useful for news and enhancing the forum. Then there is the available shout box if you dare risk it

it's really sad to see how fast the 1/72 community "dissolved", I mean there's activity in these boards but it doesn't feel the same, not sure sub boards would help. The change of boards and the apparent slowness of HäT to get new sets out is a sad development, as HäT is really the last good 1/72 scale figure producer alive.

Well there's hundreds of people reading the threads, or maybe it's just one person reading the threads hundreds of times. But they're just not commenting.
I suppose if you read each thread hundreds of times you really don't have time to comment. So he's got an excuse, but the hundreds of people who only read the threads once haven't. (both possibilities actually exist in parallel until we get a post from Schroedinger's dead cat).
I could threaten to talk nonsense until someone writes something sensible if anyone thinks that might help.

The golden age is gone, Zvezda and Italeri do no more, some companies have improved their material but not by much, Hät is slowing down..depressing.

At least we've got HaT who are improving their sculpting with every new set, & waterloo 1815 have released a few in fact if you look on PSR at sets released in 2017 there have been 46 new sets released already, with nearly 3 months left until the end of the year. I believe HaT are releasing between 10 -15 new sets before Christmas the golden age has not gone its just moved manufacturing base to eastern Europe.
True, but I still feel that the really good sets by HaT that can compare with the big companies are far into the future, though I will probably buy their new sets. The recent Napoleonic and ACW output looked like something out of the film A nightmare before Christmas. Also HäT's crowdfunding is alarming, hope they get back on track and release sets in the normal fashion. Edit: I forgot about Waterloo 1815, their Esci style figures are superb, but I just wish they produced figures for other eras too other than napoleonics.
