a question for the Austrian army experts : I don't see a difference in uniform between the Austrian grenzers and the line infantry, except obviously the colors of trousers and coats. Is it possible to convert the Grenzers to regular infantry just by painting them in a different color?

While i wouldnt say im a expert in the Austrians, rather an all round Napoleonic fan, i believe there was also a difference in the shako?
I dont think the Grenzers had the rear peak on the back of their shakos while the line infantry did.

I agree with the above, its up to you really what you can put up with and how accurate you want to be. As I mentioned before, there was slight difference in appearance but is it enough to bother you personally?
I have had to convert various figures from other eras etc to make casualties or more "hand to hand" type poses due to a lack of them. They dont look too bad if done right.
I have also mixed 20mm metal Napoleonics with 1/72 plastic to make allied squares for Waterloo due to a lack of kneeling figures.
I converted some of Hats 1806 Prussian Dragoons into Dutch 1815 Carabiniers too with headswaps and greenstuff and while maybe not 100% perfect, they look the part.

Hi Harry,
To convert Grenzers to German style Austrian Infantry I would remove stripe, sword knots, the roll just above ankle boots on breeches and paint gaiters on to just below knee, on sleeves pointed cuffs painted straight rather than pointed with facing colour, head swap Shako with HaT Set 8027 Austrian Infantry.
As Roger and Wayne have suggested you could skip somethings such as the head swap for instance and also the Grenzers did fight in white coats in summer and Brown in winter before adopting Brown coats all year round, we are also waiting for Hats Hungarian style Austrian Infantry in Shakos which should give us all options to head swap with Hats new German style Austrian Infantry and of course Grenzers.

This could help me as well as the line infantry in question is in short supply at the moment.
