Giovanni I have read a few books recently on Byzantium The Lost World of Byzantium by Jonathan is very readable However they don't give military history detail
As for the shields and flag I think they are representative of that time period and nothing more. LBMS have a decent range and I chose these partly because the 3 different transfer shield shapes all fitted 1/72 scale
Sorry I can't be of further help...Tony

Giovanni 6-7th century
Opponents to the late Sassanids There are captured Sassanid shields on two of the bases to give extra colour. Difficult to see that detail I know!

As hinted here is a slightly bigger shot I have large Sassanid, Palmyrene and 3rd Century Romans - however they are quite a mixture of manufacturers and not fair to put on a Hat forum Regards...Tony

Hi 3 converted Hat figures - Sassanid heads on Macedonian bodies well astride another manufacturers elephant. Reminds me of the advertising slogan for a Scottish brewery - Glaswegian heart with German head! Regards...Tony
