When my latest order of 1/7nd SYW Prussian Infantry arrived in the mail, I was very pleased to see that both the British and American figures from the ARW have been listed as future releases from HaT! Huzzah! These are some really great looking miniatures that I am anxious to add to my collection. But, it has been a while since the pictures of the proposed pictures have been available. Please HaT ... could you go through the archives and post the pictures in the Musket section, so newer members can see these excellent figures for themselves? Now back to prepping my Prussians for the tabletop ... where did I put those brushes?!
Thanks,
Martin

Hope it's true, the AWI is long overdue and HäT is the best company to produce figures for this period in my opinion. Time to retire the old Imex sets and replace them with new HäT figures!

AWI and 7 years war are so unbelievably forgotten about. Considering the Accurate British infantry and American militia sets are so good I can't believe more sets have not been made to compliment these. The Airfix sets are awful, the imex artillery are basic, the Italeri French and American infantry are poor (but the Native American set is then excellent). So Hat could do well to try and re-open up another conflict instead of going over the same old boring ground of even more Napoleonics etc...

Hi Richard, you forgot to mention the Italeri British Light Dragoons that can be used for both the SYW and the AWI. Also worth a mention are the Imex Eastern Friendly Indians that includes two very nice Wigwams and canoes. I think that it is also interesting that at the same time Hat have chosen to re-release their Prussian SYW Infantry sets Zvezda have re-released their Prussian Hussars and Revell have reboxed and released their Austrian Dragoons and Prussian Hussars. This must mean that there is interest in this colourful period. Add to these sets the excellent Red Box British and Highland Infantry sets that are advertised as for the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion but wear the uniforms that were still in the same style during the SYW and at last we are getting somewhere. I look forward to Hat releasing their Prussian Artillery and Mac Austrian Infantry as soon as possible along with the British and Americans for the AWI.
Best regards,
Malcolm

The other issue with most other manufacturers' sets is the mix of poses. For regular/line infantry, I have always preferred being able to rank up figures for musket era wargames units. HaT really pioneered this approach with separate marching and fighting sets. I notice that HaT has recently adopted a similar approach, coinciding with a very noticeable improvement in the quality of their sculpting.
Some more such 7 Years War sets from HaT would be very welcome. I would like to see SYW French (preferably without turnbacks) I would not neglect the British, despite the excellent Redbox figures, because, again, the subject would benefit from a decent marching set. French and British sets would be useful for various colonial campaigns, including the French-Indian wars in North America and Clive in India, as well as Continental European campaigns. I'd also like to see French cavalry (breast plates under coats, please), and British dragoons, as well as artillery for France, Britain, Prussia and Austria.
I would also welcome troops for the American revolution.
Perhaps I have a somewhat old fashioned 'Grand Manner' approach, but, to my mind, nothing looks better than a decent number of marching figures ranked together in a column! Plastic 1/72 gives you the space and budget to do just that!

Malcolm, spot on with the Red Box British infantry-they really are a quality set. Already painted them up for a French and Indian War diorama I'll one day get round to making. The Italeri British cavalry are a bit of a strange one, such little cavalry was used in AWI and none in FIW, not sure what the point of that set really was...And the Revell 7 years war infantry are so tall and gangly. As I'm commenting I'm realising how fussy I am being...

This must mean that there is interest in this colourful period. Back in the days before HaT made their 7YW sets, any time the 7YW was mentioned on the forum the responses went off the page. I felt like I was the only one not asking for them. So there is considerable interest out there. These days I'd be interested in any sets that would fit in with the Jacobite Rebellion (dragoons and artillery are needed) or maybe the French Indian Wars. Of course I don't mind if HaT goes over the same old boring ground of even more Napoleonics as well.

For 7YW there are many options in 20mm metal for decades, however I'd love to see marching, advancing and firing in affordable plastic, and not giants like some sets by HäT and Zvezda!

The HaT Prussians are noticeably taller than the Redbox Brits or the Revell figures. Were they sized for the Zvezda figures, I wonder?
Anyway, I agree it would be good if any future 'Lace Wars' releases were brought down to earth slightly.

I suspect the period will be ignored in the coming years, for now I will continue to rely on metal figures for ACW and 7YW, for WWI and such I look forward to purchase HäT´s old sets and new, the upcoming early French artillery crew looks great.
