This sprue delivers the regular 12 mounted set with one extra officer/special figure. Do you like it or do you prefer some other sprue design. Vote here!

To be honest, no, every rider needs a mount. I don't do a lot of conversions and prefer to paint up one box as a single wargame unit.

Seems a waste of a figure. I prefer one rider one horse. Arm choices are good.

If the choice is 4 horses 4 riders, or more variety with 4 horses 5 riders.... I think I will go for the latter rather then the former

Ironsides is correct, HaT cavalry sets have always been 12 figures in 4 poses so the 5th rider pose is a bonus otherwise the price goes up significantly. I vote for the 5th rider setup - the WW1 Russian Cossack set will have a standard-bearer bonus figure and I can probably source spare horses from other sets for the others

I prefer to have the same number of horses as riders. I am all in favour of four different horses. The old Hat sets with only two horse poses are just too simplistic. Also, officers normally had different saddlery to the troopers. To get a better representation maybe Hat should consider four sprues to a box, three standard four horse four troopers and a fourth with the special figures like Officers, Musicians, NCO and Standard Bearers. I hate having a bow legged amputee running across the battlefield.
Best regards,
Malcolm

Firstly, I would say that the mini sprue with command figures is an excellent idea if you wanted to do that.
Secondly if HaT wants to give us 15 mounted figures at the same price as a 12 mounted figure set I'm all for it. If they want to give us 20 or 50 or 100 mounted figures at the same price even better.
But I suppose there are good reasons why standardisation works for manufacturers so, if future HaT cavalry sets are going to be standard 12 mounted figure sets then I prefer to have the extra officer figure.
Here's the logic:
A standard 12 mounted figure set contains 12 enlisted men with no officers.
It could possibly contain 9 enlisted men and 3 officers. But it's one or the other, you can't have both options in the same set.
If each sprue has an extra officer figure then:
You can still have 12 enlisted men with no officers if you want.
or you can have 9 enlisted men and 3 officers.
or you can have 10 enlisted men and 2 officers.
Or you can have 11 enlisted men and 1 officer.
Here's the thing, You get to choose! You get all of those options in the same set. And if you have some spare horses hanging around or you buy a bag from Eagle Games you can use the left over figures.
I assume that the reason for the 5th figure idea is that HaT can fit an extra figure on the standard sprue but they can't fit an extra horse.
Which means the extra figure is an optional extra, like the optional heads or spare arms with optional weapons found in some HaT sets.
I like extras. And I don't recall anyone complaining that they don't like heads without bodies or weapons without figures so I don't really understand the resistence to getting an extra figure.
12 mounted figures is my minimum acceptable requirement for a cavalry set. If 1 of those figures is an officer that's excellent. i'm voting for the extra figure.

I agree with those who say that having five figures is desirable. Especially if the fifth figure has a variety of attachable arms.
Others have said, and I agree, that one can often find extra horses somewhere if one wants to mount all the figures. And if one does not, no loss, no harm, no foul. It's an extra figure. The standard 12-figure set that we have come to expect is not compromised in any way by adding a fifth figure.

I like the sprew you show above, but ...
* Would like one arm shooting pistol * Would like one arm shooting Rifle (actually shooting while riding; not just holding) * Would like one arm with Lance for charging (Lance straight out) * Would like longer pegs for arms to fit over so they can rotate and should fit snug (Customer can cut and glue or leave longer and heat for mushroom end for a spinning arm like Britains Swoppets / Arms Right) * Would rather have blanket rolls and bandoliers cast onto horse (I love Conversions but not a fan of those)
Thank you for asking - GC

Personally I like the current 5 riders / 4 horses format.

I really do like the 5 riders/4 horse setup. It was a very pleasant change from 4 and 4. I know not everyone does conversions, but I do a whole bunch of them. And having the variety to spice your units up without paying for extra horses (extra because previously we only got 4 and 4) means you're getting more choices and better variety for the same cost. I like the 5/4 sore design.
