Very nice indeed.
You have worked wonders on those Airfix hussars.
Best wishes,

Great stuff Donald. As with Chris those Airfix hussars 'converts' stick out to me!

All looking very good indeed donald, even if you are missing cuirassiers at present. The new HaT Austrian infantry in the line behind the Revell firing line look very good, and mix in well.
The Revell Austrian artillery set has really stood the test of time...one of the very best sets ever produced in my view; nice to see close ups of a couple of guns giving the on-coming Prussians a good pasting with canister no doubt. Good also to see those exotic grenzers close up. And the Airfix Hussars 'back' as Austro/Hungarian hussars, complete with kettledrummer if my eyes don't deceive me!
All very impressive. Thanks for sharing the photos.

I'll do three more Austrian battalions using the HaT Action sets & have a game against those Prooshians. And probably clog up the site with more photos.

Nice. Wish I had noticed this post before I replied to you about. SYW cuirassiers!

What did you use for your Pandours/Grenzers?

What did you use for your Pandours/Grenzers? They are beautiful resin figures to be found here:
They are not cheap. Indeed, he makes Austrian cuirassiers for the SYW too but at about $130 (incl. P&P) for a single unit, my frugal nature would not allow me to indulge.
Pity.

Thanks! For some reason I hadn’t thought of looking there. A lovely-looking range indeed. But as you say, pricey for wargames purposes. I will press on with my conversions! Perhaps I will treat myself to the occasional group.

BTW for HaT to make a set of Austrian SYW Grenz is a no-brainer, IMO.

These are Airfix AWI British Grenadiers, WIP. I have only just started this conversion project. I will probably mix poses from the grenadiers and the Washington’s Army box. I have used the Airfix AWI range before. These are Hungarians (IR Erzherzog Karl, later IR 2) mostly converted from Washington’s Army but with sime (esp the NCOs) from the Grenadiers set. I used thicker bases so that they stand in line next to my HäT and Revell units without the difference in size being as obvious. Guy

Splendid, my friend. I think as Hungarians especially, the AWI figures work well. I'm not sure how you made the Grenzers' shakos but it looks good. BTW did you know Grenzer battalions had grenadier companies, who wore bearskins? What I'm not sure about is did they wear these in combat or did they revert back to the shako, which makes them indistinguishable at our scale. BTW any idea which unit you'll paint these up as?
I'll need to look out for these venerable Airfix sets. I do like doing conversions but essentially, I'm lazy. If any one makes the correct unit, I'm happy not to have to do difficult & complex conversions. If only HaT would design, make & fast track some more SYW sets......* donald * I won't even mention my dream of SYW Russians....

In "Project SYW", I find the claim that, as with the line, Grenz grenadiers were in converged Grenadier battalions. www.kronoskaf.com/syw"As for the line infantry regiments, grenadiers of the Grenz-Infanterie units were converged into ad hoc battalions"

I'd imagine the bearskins were the Austrian type?

So far as I've been able to find, yes. There is some feeling for the Klobuk, which seems to be a semi-cylindrical hat, possibly with a brass plate.
In any case, something without sides to it. It seems grenadiers never wore tricorns or bicorns, because of the (obsolete) need to throw a grenade.
