I have a late war, Western Europe British army. My pal has an Afrika Korps force. Where to meet? Italy, of course! The British: The game challenged the British to advance through a country side where every German unit was hidden (only being revealed when they fired). The empty battlefield: The British plan involved using airpower & a strong artillery presence to beat the Germans. Things did not go well. A British disaster: We might fight this one again but hopefully hidden Tigers & some devastating counter-artillery might be overcome: donald

Thanks, Raph. TBH, it's not really "Italy" but a bit of a compromise with what we had to get a game going.

Beautiful looking scenery! You have so many troops from many periods, ever tried to count them all?

Nice set up the DAK look a bit out numbered though. 3:2 which is about right for attacking/defending games.
And the AK did win!

Great looking table Donald. My father (ex 5DG) would have loved to have seen all the Cromwells on the table--not brewed up though! Still, he knew all about the power of the German 88 (fortunately not from personal experience). Looking at the list above, I think that you are yet to show us a recent game with Bronze Age, Punic Wars, Dark Ages or Sudan; along with a few specific armies in the other periods. Keep 'em coming! Regards, James

Time. The last Sudan game was two years ago. The last Punic battle was three years ago. Dark Age (it'd be skirmish level using the SAGA rules) a bit longer. I just don't have the time to game everything I'd like to but I will get around to them......some time after a SYW battle or two (I'm thinking Rossbach) which period I haven't gamed in 4 years.....
but, just for you, we did get in a Hittites against the Mycenaeans about 18 months ago:
(don't mind the camels.....there's a difference in opinion as to when they arrived in the Near East. I'm going with the 1200BC school of thought).

Lovely photo Donald—camels had me tricked all right. On a first quick look I thought that it was one of those non-historical games of Numidians v Britons, or such!! Now, I *did* ask for recent photos! I can be patient like I am with my blog(s), and wait until there is something new to see/post...! All the best, James

it was one of those non-historical games of Numidians v Britons, or such!! All the best, James I'll go out on a limb here & say that the Bronze Age is not that far from Fantasy gaming, given the paucity of our knowledge.
I've created a series of Event Cards to enliven the games which whilst not directly involve the intervention of supernatural beings/deities, create situations because the people of the time *believed* them possible.
I was really hoping for a SYW game next week but my usual pals are unavailable.
