ANTIETAM 17th September 1862 I am currently building up Mansfield’s Corps for my upcoming Antietam re-fight and the arrival of the new Hat figures has allowed me to proceed in style. I really like these figures and they are very much in the the Perry manner. I have kept the red sashes for the junior officers as the Corps was predominately inexperienced and yet to learn that symbols of rank equated to special target practise. Unfortunately my order was troubled by mould flash and the bayonets especially are resistant to paint even after washing. This is a disappointment but I will try priming/ PVA to get a better adhesion. On to Richmond! Lots to do. Chris

Beautiful paint job, can’t wait to see you give the same treatment with this project as you have done for Quattro Bras 👍🏼

Interesting,I too have found current releases from several manufacturers resistant to paint even after washing. Has something changed with the chemistry of the mould releasing agents as detergent doesn't seem to cut it lately? I even tried a spray on degreaser and washing multiple times.

Excellent paint job Chris D - these look really good. I primed my figures with Vallejo Black Primer & this works well - Bayonets flex but paint does not crack off. However the figures needed a very good wash in the end I used IPA . Yes has the mold release agent changed ? These are the best sculpts on the market - Will Hat be doing an Action Set ?

Dear Chris,
Beautifully painted and arrayed for the photo. As with others I wish you all power and steady production to your game of Antietam, which we will all enjoy!
The latest Hat figures that I have painted are the re-released 1805 French in greatcoats. Some unfortunate flashing and the plastic looked a bit 'ordinary', but they have uncoated and painted well and those former problems became unnoticeable. Recent Airfix First World War figures are some that I have had problems getting paint to adhere to and needed to mix in some PVA glue with my undercoat.
Thanks for the tip/warning. I'll have to pay especial attention to washing and thorough rinsing of the latest releases from Hat once they arrive chez moi.
Regards, James
