It's the anniversary of the battle of Waterloo today has anyone been to remember or even celebrate the battle. I went to the 200th anniversary a couple of years ago, the French & Allied camps were really good as were the museums. But as soon as the reenactment began we couldn't see a thing for all the smoke from the cannon fire still a great day though. ....Steve

I went to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo with my girlfriend Nurse Kitty, over 6,200 re-enactors took part plus 330 horses and 120 cannon and drew crowds of 60,000 on each of the 2 days, in a regular year there will be 600–800 reenactors. The 5-year-anniversaries are greater events with 1,500–2,000 reenactors from France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Poland and Russia. My memory of the 200th anniversary was one of total euphoria being immersed in 2 days of a Napoleonic dreamland full of the colours of all the different uniforms and the smell of black powder and roar of the cannons, like being transported back in time, I took lots of photos of the troops as they march past onto the battlefield and had good standing views, despite the best efforts of the Belgium Gendarmes telling us you can not stand there before giving up very quickly to watch the action with us, a fantastic event full of memories I will never forget. Nurse Kitty's memory was of standing for hours in the chilly evening until her legs seized up and paying 50 cents for one sheet of toilet paper which she had to use to clear up after the previous occupant.
